Downside of Digital

So yesterday I shot a family photo session that included lots of candids, some fun halloween costume shots, action shots of wrestling with Dad and then some casually posed family portraits.  I think I may have “over-shot” it.  Had I been using rolls of 36 exp. film, I would have burned through 18 rolls in two hours… that’s a lot.

Don’t get me wrong, it is great to be able to shoot freely knowing that kids bounce around alot, smile, frown, cry, look away, sneeze, stick their tongues out and really just don’t give a damn that you are trying to take their picture… which does make for some great shots… and not so great shots.

So when do you know if you are overshooting.  Maybe it just has to do with how fast you can weed through the junk, how good your work flow is, or how much time you have for post production.

Maybe one thing I can take away is to simply be a little more thoughtful about when I press that shutter release button… although, sometimes you just have to shoot away to get the great one.
