5x5 Camera Phone Photo Show

A few months ago I installed a photography exhibit of my work at the local Starbucks (Not the Guggenheim, but lots of people sure come through).  Well, that was great, but then I realized it would be even more fun to have a photography show for EVERYONE.

Now not everyone has a fancy pants camera, so I decided it would be a camera-phone photo show.  And not everyone has a camera phone either, but the point is, just take a photo and email it to me from your phone… that’s pretty simple right?

Now, I didn’t want completely random photos, so I decided on a theme:  ”What brings you joy?”

So, this exhibit/project is about getting people to work together.  To be a little bit creative. To take part in something that celebrates our shared humanity.   And to think about the things that really matter.  (THANK the GOOD GOD in HEAVEN above, no one sent me a picture of their Hummer, BMW or florescent yellow Toyota Prius.)

My peeps came through.  I had about 60 people send in 150 photos.  Well done. This morning I installed the show and I’ve gotta say, it looks pretty darn good.  Here’s a shot taken with my camera phone (appropriate).  More photos to come soon.

IKEA + iPhone (Hipstamatic) = Lots of Fun Shots

Last week while visiting awesome people in the awesome city of Philadelphia, Sarah and I decided on a quick trip to IKEA.  We figured the whole family could eat Swedish meatballs with lingonberry jam for under $10, the kids could jump in the ball pit for an hour and we could re-stock some kitchen necessities on a budget.  GOOD: kids lunches were actually free!  BAD: Ellie is already too tall for SmallLand (our baby girl is a pre-teen in 5 days).

During our browsefest I realized that the Swedes have a way with color, patterns, shapes and compositions.  So, I took out my photographic-telephonic device and snapped a few pictures.  Hipstamatic (although running really slow these days) really made these shots work. If you like to take pictures and you don’t have this application, you’re missing out.
